Research
Both physical and online research are included on this page. Books taken off of the shelves from Sprague Library make up the physical part, whereas websites of public designers and organizations are the rest.
Online Research
I learned about several artists and designers that are connected to collaging during my research. These individuals include: John Baldessari, Patrick Nelson, Hannah Höch, David Hockney and Kurt Schwitters. Each of them have a different approaches to it, which helped me further understand how scaling and cropping images contributes to the entire piece.
What stood out the most to me:
-
How Baldessari isolates human facial features and blocks sections in solid color.
-
Nelson using shapes to outline pieces of text.
-
Höch overlapping images with similar scaling.

Physical Research
The following physical research is taken from several books on collage, its history, and artists that have pursued this design medium previously.
