Visual Communication Design Studio II

Visual Communication Design Studio II is the follow-up of Studio I. This course expands students' knowledge of typography, utilizing imagery, exploring history and resources, etc. With skills that were previously applied in Studio I, this course also includes the subjects of product packaging, statistic-related graphics, and other forms of digital media.

An Autobiographical Token

An individual project in which students are instructed to create tokens, based off of the essence of who we are as human beings. The token in  question is designed as an object chosen by the student in order to represent the students' qualities, beliefs, passions, regrets, development, etc.

Each group of students blindly take a poem written by Francis Ponge in order to produce a coherent and meaningful object. We are given the choice of producing our poems via accordion fold or instant booklet. Ponge goes beyond descriptions and observes the subjects of each poem. Our groups are meant to take apart and absorb the lines that Ponge has complexly written. The poem my group was given was entitled, "Dung." Although it was a surprising topic, we design an eight-paged instant booklet to represent the meanig behing Dung.

Spotlight

Students were given the task of designing a mailable invitation with a custom sleeve that goes along accordingly with a fictional exhibition. Each group is instructed to research a graphic design Luminary of choice, who will be the subject of the invitation. The piece will describe the Luminary, their work, the instituion of choice, etc. Our group decided to approach this assignment by choosing Astrid Stavro as our Luminary. The entire process and sections of work each group member participated in are listed within this section.

Students are instructed to use wittiness and playfulness in contrast to a fictional world established as a"radical [year of] 2039, a cold, gray, post-post-pandemic world." A designed package, company brand, and company mark are needed to accomplish this result. In this case, it will be needed to grow or be able to scale up when water is added to it.
